Respect and be respected. Value and be valued. Aim high

Forest School / Outdoor Learning

Our forest school / outdoor learning sessions take place in Year 4 on Thursday mornings.

Research has suggested that outdoor learning boosts confidence, social skills, communication, motivation, physical skills, knowledge and understanding. It has also been found to boost children's self-esteem, self-confidence, ability to work cooperatively and positive attitude to learning.  We feel passionate that children in Ysgol Penycae should be given the opportunity to be out in all weathers, exploring our outdoor environment, so please ensure that children come to school suitably dressed for these carefully planned sessions.

Children will be informed of the exact dates of Forest School / Outdoor Learning sessions by the class teacher; and parents / carers will receive a text reminder the day before a session.

Children need to come to school suitably equipped for a forest school session:

  • Old and comfortable clothes suitable for outdoor use ~ tracksuit / leggings; t-shirt; sweatshirt / hoodie
  • Showerproof coat
  • An ADDITIONAL pair of footwear ~ wellies / walking boots or shoes / old trainers
  • In cold weather ~ hat, gloves, scarf
  • In warm weather ~ sunhat / cap, sunglasses

Forest school sessions are 'hands on' and we can often get muddy, so it is best to encourage your child to wear clothes that they consider to be 'play clothes' rather than 'best / smart clothes' to school on these days!
