Summer Term Topic

Nursery’s summer term topic is Walk on the Wildside. In exploration, the children will be learning all about the minibeasts we have in our garden. They will be going on minibeast hunts and learning the names of minibeasts they don’t yet know. The children will be learning where the best place will be to look for minibeasts by sorting them into their correct habitats. They will be investigating minibeast movement and behaviour and learning all about the importance of minibeasts in the ecosystem.

In Communication we are going to be reading the stories of Eric Carle, the very hungry Caterpillar, the bad-tempered Ladybird and the very busy spider. The children will be talking about the characters, settings and story, sequencing some events from the stories and recounting some information.

Our reading will inspire some work on life cycles and the children will be using their creativity to create videos of the life cycle of a butterfly and using natural resources to show the life cycle of a butterfly in forest school.

We will also be exploring length, height, mass and capacity during our maths exploration.

Our continuous provision will be full of mini beast fun as the children look closely at each minibeast, use their creative skills to create minibeasts in the craft and dough areas and go looking for minibeasts in the sand area and outdoor provision.
